Climbing Routes
For mountaineers, Olympus is a privileged place. There are well organized rides and hospitable refuges. The mountaineering routes at Olympus start from Litochoro, Dion and Petra. The summer ascents to the mythical mountain of the gods usually begin early June and finish at the end of September. It is the time when the refuges under the peaks are open and the weather allows for a climb without the snow equipment and mountaineering experience that are required in the winter. The climb to the high peaks during the winter season can only be made by experienced mountaineers, for whom there are also challenging climbing routes on steep slopes. Novice visitors should be restricted to the summer months, when refuges function normally.
